MacCallum, Robert – Psychometrika, 1983
Factor analysis programs in SAS, BMDP, and SPSS are discussed and compared in terms of documentation, methods and options available, internal logic, computational accuracy, and results provided. Based on these comparisons, preferences for SAS and against SPSS factor analysis programs are recommended. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Comparative Analysis, Computer Programs, Data Analysis, Factor Analysis

Gerbing, David W.; Hunter, John E. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1982
In a LISREL-IV analysis, a method of specifying a priori the variances of the latent variables for interpretability is demonstrated. The potential confusion of the metric of the latent variables is discussed, since many of the parameter estimates are a function of the metric. (Author/CM)
Descriptors: Computer Programs, Factor Analysis, Mathematical Models, Maximum Likelihood Statistics

Puhan, Biranchi N. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
One hundred undergraduate arts students were tested on all the scales of Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scales (WAIS) and the Differential Aptitude Tests. Varimax solutions were extracted on WAIS scores under four analytic conditions. No progressive increment in the WAIS communalities was marked as the marker variables increased. (Author/RL)

Bentler, Peter M.; Weeks, David G. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1979
Factor analysis in several populations, covariance structure models, three-mode factor analysis, structural equations systems with measurement model, and analysis of covariance with measurement model are all shown to be specializations of a general moment structure model. Some new structured linear models are also described. (Author/CTM)
Descriptors: Analysis of Covariance, Computer Programs, Critical Path Method, Factor Analysis
Wolfle, Lee M. – 1981
Whenever one uses ordinary least squares regression, one is making an implicit assumption that all of the independent variables have been measured without error. Such an assumption is obviously unrealistic for most social data. One approach for estimating such regression models is to measure implied coefficients between latent variables for which…

Bentler, Peter M., Ed.; And Others – 1976
This volume contains 10 original papers discussing methodologies applicable to performing psychosocial research on substance abuse, particularly abuse with drugs. Eight data analysis strategies are discussed by the authors: automatic interaction detection, actuarial prediction, cluster and typological analysis, path analysis, factor analysis,…
Descriptors: Cluster Analysis, Computer Programs, Data Analysis, Drug Abuse
Tatsuoka, Kikumi K.; And Others – 1978
A series of analyses were made to relate attitudinal and achievement outcomes in an assessment of student achievement and of student and instructor attitudes, made by the U.S. Air Force Human Resources Laboratory (AFHRL) and the Air Training Command (ATC) as part of their joint Service Test of the PLATO IV system at Chanute Air Force Base. Data…

Veldman, Donald J. – 1978
PRIME is a library of 44 batch-oriented computer routines: 20 major package programs, which use 12 statistical utility routines, and 12 other utility routines for input/output and data manipulation. This manual contains a general description of data preparation and coding, standard control cards, input deck arrangement, standard options, and…

Gustafsson, Jan-Eric; Lindstrom, Berner – 1978
The Joreskog and Sorbom LISREL (linear structural relations) method is investigated as an alternative to regression analysis in studies of aptitude-treatment interactions (ATI), to solve problems caused by unreliability of measurements and by large sets of variables. A study reported by M.J. Behr is reanalyzed. This study investigated relations…

Hall, Charles E.; And Others – 1973
The VARAN (variance Analysis) program is an addition to a series of computer programs for multivariate analysis of variance. The development of VARAN exploits the full linear model. Analysis of variance, univariate and multivariate, is the program's main target. Correlation analysis of all types is available with printout in the vernacular of…
