Factor analysis programs in SAS, BMDP, and SPSS are discussed and compared in terms of documentation, methods and options available, internal logic, computational accuracy, and results provided. In a LISREL-IV analysis, a method of specifying a priori the variances of the latent variables for interpretability is demonstrated. The potential confusion of the metric of the latent variables is discussed, since many of the parameter estimates are a function of the metric. (Author/CM)

One hundred undergraduate arts students were tested on all the scales of Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scales (WAIS) and the Differential Aptitude Tests. Varimax solutions were extracted on WAIS scores under four analytic conditions. No progressive increment in the WAIS communalities was marked as the marker variables increased. (Author/RL)
