Sunde, Eleah; Briggs, Adam M.; Mitteer, Daniel R. – Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 2022
Prior research has evaluated the reliability and validity of structured visual inspection (SVI) criteria for interpreting functional analysis (FA) outcomes (Hagopian et al., 1997; Roane et al., 2013). We adapted these criteria to meet the unique needs of interpreting latency-based FA outcomes and examined the reliability and validity of applying…

A Sequential Bayesian Changepoint Detection Procedure for Aberrant Behaviors in Computerized Testing
Jing Lu; Chun Wang; Jiwei Zhang; Xue Wang – Grantee Submission, 2023
Changepoints are abrupt variations in a sequence of data in statistical inference. In educational and psychological assessments, it is pivotal to properly differentiate examinees' aberrant behaviors from solution behavior to ensure test reliability and validity. In this paper, we propose a sequential Bayesian changepoint detection algorithm to…

Kildahl, Arvid Nikolai; Bakken, Trine Lise; Iversen, Trine Elisabeth; Helverschou, Sissel Berge – Journal of Mental Health Research in Intellectual Disabilities, 2019
Introduction: autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and intellectual disability (ID) seem to influence the risk of and vulnerability to exposure to trauma and adverse events. While assessment of a psychiatric disorder in ASD and ID generally is challenging, identification of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) seems particularly so, and knowledge does…

Novak, Magdalena; Phelan, Siëlle; Lewalter, Doris; Schwan, Stephan – International Journal of Science Education, 2020
Previous research from in and outside museums suggests that the haptic exploration of surfaces and objects have various educational benefits and can positively influence the museum visit experience. However, there is still a need for more research on the potential effects of object handling on museum learning, especially in science museums. The…

Klein, William M. – 1992
This study sought to show that motivated biases can be shown for positive, as well as negative, behaviors. In the first study college students (N=151) estimated how often they and their fellow students engaged in various positive and negative health-related behaviors. Results indicated all negative behaviors yielded the predicted pattern: subjects…

Ventola, Pamela E.; Kleinman, Jamie; Pandey, Juhi; Barton, Marianne; Allen, Sarah; Green, James; Robins, Diana; Fein, Deborah – Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 2006
Autistic spectrum disorders (ASD) can be difficult to diagnose in toddlers. This study compared diagnostic measures (ADOS-G, ADI-R, CARS, and clinical judgment using DSM-IV criteria) applied to toddlers. Results indicated that the ADOS-G, CARS, and clinical judgment agreed with each other but not with the ADI-R. Many of the children classified…

Carlson, Sibylle J.; Latta, R. Michael – 1980
One attributional model of achievement proposes that individuals attribute their own and others' performance outcomes to one or more of four causes, i.e., ability, effort, task difficulty, and luck, and that such attributions have motivational significance for subsequent achievement-related behavior. The effects of gender, level of resultant…

Murphy-Berman, Virginia; And Others – Psychology of Women Quarterly, 1981
Assessed whether subjects' ratings of taped interactants, whose gender was ambiguous, would be determined mainly by what gender the subjects thought the interactants were or by the interactants' behavior. Results showed that the causes of sex differences in assessments differed depending on what type of assessment was being made. (Author/JAC)

Canivez, Gary L. – Psychology in the Schools, 2004
Independent examination and replication of the core syndrome factor structure of the Adjustment Scales for Children and Adolescents (ASCA; McDermott, Marston, & Stott, 1993) is reported. A sample of 1,020 children were randomly selected from their classroom and rated on the ASCA by their teacher. The six ASCA core syndromes produced a…

Deshler, Donald D.; And Others – 1980
A statewide random sampling of seven groups of professional educators (N=90) and 30 parents of learning disabled (LD) students were compared for their degree of agreement on the Modified Component Disability Instrument. Professionals included teachers of LD adolescents, remedial reading teachers, school psychologists, speech clinicians, school…

Strohmer, Douglas C.; Biggs, Donald A. – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1983
Studied the influence of client-counselor group membership similarity, counselor reputation cues, and attending behavior on disabled subject's perceptions. Physically disabled adults (N=40) viewed a series of vignettes and rated counselor expertness and attractiveness. Results do not support the belief that client-counselor group membership…

McGovern, Thomas V.; And Others – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1981
Examined the effect of level of nonverbal behavior and mode of presentation (audio, audiovisual, visual, and printed transcript) on ratings given to a confederate "job interviewee." The results showed significant main effects and an interaction between level and mode. A poor visual presentation results in the lowest interviewer ratings. (Author)

Piper, William E.; Marrache, Myriam – Small Group Behavior, 1981
Investigated the relationship between behavior variables and pretherapy variables and found significant positive relationships. The amount of work a patient produced in a therapy group was highly related to pretraining levels of on-task behavior. Psychiatric interview variables were poor predictors of pretraining behaviors. (JAC)

Ruggiero, Mary; Steinberg, Laurence D. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1981
Used a coding system for chronicling a variety of microbehaviors in sequence in adolescent job environments. Working teenagers (N=97) were observed continuously over a two-hour period. Three elements of each of 100 behaviors were recorded: the social context, the character, and the duration and concomitants of the behavior. (Author/RC)

Matthews, Karen A.; Volkin, Janice I. – Child Development, 1981
Type A and Type B children's efforts to achieve were investigated. Type A's solved more arithmetic problems than did Type B's in a no-deadline condition. Type A's held a weight, which matched individual hand strength, 50 percent longer than did Type B's. Ambiguous performance criteria seemed to increase Type A efforts to excel. (Author/DB)
