Senk, Sharon L. – Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, 1989
Secondary geometry students were tested for van Hiele level of thinking, geometry knowledge and achievement, and proof-writing achievement. Proof-writing achievement correlated significantly with van Hiele level entering geometry knowledge and geometry achievement. The predictive validity of the van Hiele model was supported. (Author/DC)

Pulos, Steven; Sneider, Cary – Focus on Learning Problems in Mathematics, 1994
Presents guidelines for developing and evaluating games in mathematics, including a concrete example--coordinate geometry taught by the Rubber Bones game--and its evaluation using (n=52) seventh graders. Guidelines for development include analysis of the concepts and the learner, nature of learning, enjoyability, integration, and evaluation. (48…

Pegg, John; Davey, Geoff – Mathematics Education Research Journal, 1989
Written descriptions by students in grades 3-7 (n=274) of common 2-dimensional geometric shapes were examined to compare the level descriptors of the van Hiele Theory and the SOLO Taxonomy. Results indicate that descriptors associated with the SOLO Taxonomy more accurately describe the quality of student thinking. (MDH)

Clark, Robert M. – 1982
At Kings River Community College, analyses were conducted of the grades and characteristics of students in Mathematics A (Elementary Algebra), Mathematics B (Plane Geometry), Mathematics C (Trigonometry), and Mathematics D (Intermediate Algebra) to determine which variables were significantly related to student success. Data were gathered on 69…
