Smith, David W.; Wells, Michael E. – Mental Retardation, 1983
Monthly progress reports were written with and without microcomputer assistance by six professional and 20 nonprofessional staff in a state facility for the mentally retarded. Ratings by persons blind to the conditions indicated that use of the computer resulted in higher quality reports. (Author)

LeGrice, Bronwen; Blampied, Neville M. – Education and Training in Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, 1994
Prompting videos were developed and successfully used to train four adolescents with moderate intellectual disabilities the operation of a videorecorder and personal computer. Training transferred to another teacher, another setting, and, with additional training, to another type of videorecorder and personal computer. (Author/DB)

McGregor, Gail; Axelrod, Saul – Education and Treatment of Children, 1988
Three students (aged 14-15) with severe handicaps were trained in independent use of a microcomputer, using a variation of the total task chaining procedure. All students were able to complete all necessary steps for computer use in an average of 16 sessions, thus expanding their available instructional and recreational opportunities. (Author/PB)

Strand, S. C.; Morris, R. C. – Applied Research in Mental Retardation, 1986
Efficiency of three discrimination training procedures was compared for 21 mentally handicapped children. Results showed that two programmed techniques (graded stimulus and prompt fading) did not differ significantly, but both were significantly superior to trial-and-error learning. (Author/CL)

Finegold, Lawrence S.; And Others – 1984
The research and development project demonstrated the viability of a simulated training system to address training issues related to three-dimensional air intercept tactics and geometry, and resulted in the production of two videotapes for use in the United States Air Force Interceptor Weapons School. An introduction discusses the overall…

O'Toole, William M.; Wagner, William G. – Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin, 1985
Investigated three methods of teaching word-processing skills to rehabilitation counseling students (N=26). Students trained with a "manual plus demonstration" performed significantly better than a "manual only" or a "manual plus lecture" group. Student attitude toward computer technology improved regardless of the training method used. (BH)

Zimmerman, G. J. – Journal of Visual Impairment and Blindness, 1990
Four blind adults explored the spatial layout of landmarks in a large-scale space utilizing a microcomputer simulation of the environment and a tactile graphic aid of a similar environment. Although subjects learned the landmarks' locations faster using the tactile graphic aid, the accuracy of their spatial knowledge was equal with both…

Blinn, Charles R.; And Others – 1989
A project undertaken at the University of Minnesota evaluated two microcomputer teletraining systems (audiographic conferencing) to determine the effectiveness of this technology for point-to-point and multipoint distance education. System design requirements included broadcast keystrokes, error checking, master-slave linkages, simultaneous voice…

Polzella, Donald J.; Hubbard, David C. – 1986
This document consists of an interim report and a final report which describe the second and third phases of a project designed to determine the utility and utilization of sophisticated hardware and software capabilities known as advanced instructional features (AIFs). Used with an aircrew training device (ATD), AIFs permit a simulator instructor…

Christel, Michael – Instruction Delivery Systems, 1992
Describes a microcomputer-based digital video course that uses virtual reality to teach the code inspection (i.e., formal software technical review) process. Use of virtual reality for group process activities that involve interpersonal and group dynamic skills is discussed, and research indicating that realism improves course effectiveness is…

Hannaman, David L.; And Others – 1985
One means by which subordinate leaders in armor units can practice command, control, and communication (C3 skills) before participating in field exercises is with the use of a computer supported battle simulation. This report describes the functional requirements and hardware configuration for Simulation in Combined Arms Training (SIMCAT), a…

Cortinovis, Renato – Educational Technology, 1992
Presents an engineering environment oriented to the development of hypermedia applications for training. Training trends are described; requirements for a computer-based training (CBT) strategy are outlined; a hypermedia course structure is examined; microinstructional events (MIEs) are explained; and technology requirements and selection are…

Edwards, Bernell J. – 1986
This report documents an experiment to determine the training effectiveness of a microcomputer-based avionics system trainer as a cost-effective alternative to training in the actual aircraft. Participants--26 operationally qualified C-141 pilots with no prior knowledge of the Fuel Saving Advisory System (FSAS), a computerized fuel management…
