Osmanoglu, Devrim Erginsoy – World Journal of Education, 2019
Abuse refers to any form of physical, emotional, sexual and economic maltreatment that actually damages the child's health, life, development and / or dignity. Sulak, Tracey N. – Educational Studies, 2018
A positive school climate impacts students by promoting positive relations among students, staff and faculty of the school. The current study used latent class analysis and multinomial regression with R3STEP to analyse patterns of negative behaviours in schools and test the association of these patterns with structural variables like school size,…

Balemba, Samantha; Beauregard, Eric; Mieczkowski, Tom – Crime & Delinquency, 2012
Circumstances under which a sexual assault takes place and how these circumstances affect offenders' reactions to victim resistance are not well understood. Previous studies have not thoroughly examined the interactions that take place between situational factors and resistance. Using a combination of logistic regression and Chi-square Automatic…

Rebocho, Maria Francisca; Goncalves, Rui Abrunhosa – Journal of Interpersonal Violence, 2012
Although there has been an increase in research on sex offenders' modus operandi, geographic decision making, and hunting behavior, most studies still tend to emphasize criminal motivation while overlooking the role of situational and environmental factors. Studies of mixed samples of rapists and child molesters typically neglect to conduct…

Anderson, Peter B.; Thompson, Bruce – 1990
The role of women as sexual victims has been recognized and documented in cultural and social history. However, men too can be the victims of unwanted and aggressive heterosexual behavior. This study explored the incidence of sexually aggressive behaviors performed by women (N=212) who were students in sexuality classes. Specifically, three…

Hartman, Georgia L.; And Others – Child Abuse & Neglect: The International Journal, 1994
Prosecuting and defense attorneys across Indiana were surveyed concerning the acceptability of specific behaviors associated with child abuse. Among respondents (n=154) prosecutors had more severe judgments than defense attorneys on 32 of the 42 behaviors. Cognitive dissonance theory is proposed as an explanation for these findings. (Author/DB)

White, Jacquelyn W.; And Others – 1989
Two studies examined the hypothesis that sexually coercive behavior is part of a larger constellation of non-sexual deviant behaviors. The first study considered the relationship between various antisocial intentions and self-reported levels of sexual aggression. As a part of a larger study, college men (N=108) responded to the Sexual Experiences…

Zinni, V. Ruth – Child Abuse & Neglect: The International Journal, 1997
A study compared the sandplay behavior and pictures of 26 children (ages 10-11) who had experienced sexual, physical, and/or emotional abuse and 26 typical children. Quinsey, Vernon L.; Khanna, Arunima; Malcolm, P. Bruce – Journal of Interpersonal Violence, 1998
Of 483 inmates who were referred to a sex offender treatment program and followed for an average of 44 months of opportunity to reoffend, 38% were arrested for new violent or sexual offenses. After statistically controlling for the static variables that predicted reoffending, the treatment program was associated with a higher rate of sexual…

Child molesters, rapists, and three control groups were assessed on measures of heterosocial skills, social anxiety, hostility, impulsivity, and attitudinal variables via role-play and paper-and-pencil measures. Heterosocial skill deficits and specific anxieties and fears were observed in child molesters and rapists. Measures of hostility or…

Lawson, Ronald; Drebing, Charles; Berg, Gary; Vincellette, Aime; Penk, Walter – Child Abuse & Neglect: The International Journal, 1998
A study of 1,207 male veterans admitted to a substance-abuse program found a history of sexual abuse was related to spiritual injury and low stability of spiritual behaviors, but not to overall rate of current religious behavior. Abuse was related to increased frequency of prayer and of spiritual experience. (Author/CR)

Hepburn, James M. – Journal of Child Sexual Abuse, 1994
Because of the influence of feminism, most of the treatment models for victims of child sexual abuse are aimed at meeting the needs of women. The distinctions between male and female ways of resolving issues are used to discuss the challenges faced by clinicians working with male victims. (JPS)

Lovett, Beverly B. – Child Abuse & Neglect: The International Journal, 1995
Interviews with 60 female victims (ages 7-12) of sexual abuse found that most viewed relationships with their mothers as warm and accepting. Girls who perceived lower maternal rejection had higher competency ratings and fewer behavior problems. Abuse involving force was correlated with lower victim competency. More violent abuse was correlated…
