Wolfram, Dietmar; Spink, Amanda; Jansen, Bernard J.; Saracevic, Tefko – Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology, 2001
Compares and contrasts results from two previous studies of Excite queries' data sets and examines how public Web searching changed during that period. Koehler, Wallace – Searcher, 1998
Describes a study of four major Web search engines that tested for staleness, a condition when a significant number of the hits it returns point to Web pages or server-level domains (SLD) that are no longer viable. Results of tests of URLs with AltaVista, HotBot, InfoSeek, and Open Text are discussed. (Author/LRW)

Nicholson, Scott – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 2000
Discussion of information retrieval on the Web focuses on a study that is the result of ten replications of the 1996 Ding and Marchionini Web search tool research. Explores effects that replication can have on transforming unreliable results from one iteration into replicable and therefore reliable results following multiple iterations.…

Fraser, Landon; Locatis, Craig – Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology, 2001
Investigated the effects of link annotations on high school user search performance in Web hypertext environments having deep (layered) and shallow link structures. Results confirmed previous research that shallow link structures are better than deep (layered) link structures, and also showed that annotations had virtually no effect on search…
