Technological development offers language teachers a myriad of options for collaborative activities. Learners, in turn, benefit from increased opportunities to interact with people who can speak their target language. Research has previously highlighted the importance of developing learners' intercultural competence through such activities. The researchers implemented verbal and non-verbal activities in an intercultural collaboration project for learners of English in Japan and learners of Japanese in the U.S. This paper will detail the project activities and provide a comprehensive summary of the results, especially as they pertain to interaction with native speakers of the target language to develop verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
