Bethea-Hampton, Terrie; Holder, Ashley
Association Supporting Computer Users in Education, Paper presented at the Annual Meeting of the Association Supporting Computer Users in Education (ASCUE) (51st, Myrtle Beach, SC, Jun 10-14, 2018)
An exploratory project on the use of digital notebooks and collaboration is currently underway in four courses over the span of five semesters at two North Carolina universities. The team currently teaches at two different universities. Professor A is at a private institution and Professor B is instructs at a state university. The team has partnered together to increase collaboration in online and face-to-face classes. The professors instruct teacher candidates enrolled in licensure programs at the elementary and secondary levels. The team focuses on active engagement and collaboration for today's digital learners. After defining digital notebooks and reasons to use them, this paper provides a literature review followed by a discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of digital notebooks in higher education. Next, the paper describes implementation of the project by Professor A, which included creating a Classroom Management Binder template in Google Slides. Finally, the paper describes implementation of the project by Professor B, which involved integrating digital notebooks in READ courses through Google Slides.
