What Are We Going to Do? Recentering with Janet Miller for the More-than-Human
Peter M. Appelbaum
AERA Online Paper Repository, Paper presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Educational Research Association (Philadelphia, PA, Apr 11-14, 2024)
This dialogue with Janet Miller, from her early work in the 1980s through the present, explores a post-human response to situatedness and embodiment, and demonstrate possible things to consider when we want to avoid centering human experience--when we strive to steward a universe determined as much by the more-than-human participants in our "situations" as by humans. The problem is, even to ask the fundamental question, 'What are we going to do?' (Miller 1992) ironically fixates on our own actions, ourselves. But, maybe not too much?
