Duttweiler, Patricia C. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
This paper presents the development of a new measure of locus of control for adults, the Internal Control Index. Analysis of a field test and a junior college administration indicated an estimated reliability of .84, the presence of a strong principal component, two replicable factors, and evidence for convergent validity. The Belief Polarity Scale, an index of racial prejudice, was administered to 76 educators of mixed racial background before and after an interracial human relations workshop. Analysis of variance revealed that polarity scores discriminated by race and that change in polarity was a function of pretest dogmatism. (Author/BW)
