Prepared under contract with the International Council on Archives (ICA), this study is designed to provide archivists, records managers, and other interested professionals with both a reference and planning tool in the area of methods, norms and standards. The study is based on responses to a questionnaire which was submitted to selected categories of ICA members. Fifty replies, including seven nil replies, were received. The study background, methodology, and purpose are discussed; and an analysis of questionnaire replies is provided by topic: (1) National Standards on Matters of Concern Both to Records Management and to Archives Administration; (2) Standards on Records Management; and (3) Standards on Archives Administration. The Directory of National Standards includes listings of the standards of 32 countries, listed by country, as well as RAMP (Records and Archives Management Programme) studies and guidelines and related documents, other UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization) publications, and ICA publications. An index to the standards is provided; and the questionnaire, the cover letter, and a listing of respondents to the questionnaire are appended. (KM)
