Social Emotional Learning: A Teachers' Perspective of Utilizing This Teaching Practice
Courtney Marie Dowling
ProQuest LLC, D.Ed. Dissertation, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology
Social Emotional skills are utilized in everyday life. Social and emotional learning (SEL) helps students (even adults) thrive within school and life outside of school. In many schools, Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is the foundation of their curriculum. Social emotional learning is a commonly used teaching method within public and private schools. The purpose of this research is to interview teachers to view their perspective of utilizing SEL. This research is a phenomenology approach to qualitative data research. Participants are teachers over the age of 18 with experience using SEL. The data was collected through formal interviews. This opportunity also provides administrators with a view into why a teacher likes or dislikes this method of teaching and how they can help teachers utilize this method better. It is important to gather feedback from the people who use this teaching method, the teachers. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
