Leadership of Urban Student-Athletes: Who Is Doing It and What Are They Doing?
Beverly, Christel Lea Virginia; Feltz, Deborah L.
AERA Online Paper Repository, Paper presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Educational Research Association (Washington, DC, Apr 8-12, 2016)
This study seeks to investigate the leadership behaviors of teachers and coaches in urban high schools using Eccles et al.s' (1998) expectancy-value model as a guide for understanding the context and learning environment surrounding urban student-athletes. Learning how teachers and coaches interact with each other provides much needed insight into the educational environment they are creating for their student-athletes. Specifically, the inquiry aims to understand the relational interactions between high school leaders--teachers and sport coaches--in the context of student-athlete outcomes.
