A Reconsideration of the Concept "Sex-Role Identification" in Adolescent and Family Research
McDonald, Gerald W.
Adolescence, 13, 50, 215-20, Sum 78
The concept "sex-role identification" is seen as biased and value-laden as it is utilized in present research. This assumes that learning the proper sex role in American society is directly related to adequate personality adjustment of the adolescent. Discusses problems associated with this conceptual approach and suggests a more appropriate terminology be used, incorporating both the social, locational and interactional context of "sex-role" behavior.
