Describes the process of developing a competency-based curriculum (faculty-developed and time-variable) used at the Rockford School of Medicine created by the State Board of Higher Education of the University of Illinois in 1969. An approach being used at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy to enhance the ability of pharmacy students to communicate effectively with their patients is described. The module consists of a syllabus, original videotapes, audiotapes, assigned readings, and evaluation tools. (LBH)
