Analysis of the first- and fifth-week clerkship activities of six doctoral pharmacy students focused on student-instructor contact time and the significance of student contributions to patient care. A survey of 71 schools of pharmacy and 22 post-entry-level doctoral pharmacy programs revealed that most have at least one course containing nutrition information in the curriculum, with varying course content and emphasis. Instructors prefer more formalized lecture to therapeutic and nutrition of health topics. (MSE)

An examination of the comparability of existing pharmacy home study courses and coursework required for the master's degrees in pharmacy administration and hospital pharmacy and the doctor of pharmacy degree revealed that about 70 percent of those studied covered material similar to some covered in 16 of the 75 degree courses. A program in which first-year pharmacy students "shadowed" fourth-year students in clerkships for a day found the shadowing experienced did not significantly improve students' ability to master course objectives, but the introduction of younger students to practice areas of pharmacy was seen as very beneficial.
