Drasgow, Fritz; And Others – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1989
Multilinear formula scoring (MFS) is reviewed, with emphasis on estimating option characteristic curves (OCSs). MFS was used to estimate OCSs for the arithmetic reasoning subtest of the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery for 2,978 examinees. A second analysis obtained OCSs for simulated data. The use of MFS is discussed. (SLD)

Polynomial algorithms are presented that are used to solve selected problems in test theory, and computational results from sample problems with several hundred decision variables are provided that demonstrate the benefits of these algorithms. The algorithms are based on optimization theory in networks (graphs). (SLD)

The effect of test length on predictive validity is examined empirically. For four tests, the curve of validity against test length had a very gentle slope for the longer tests and all tests could be reduced by more than 60 percent without appreciable decreases in validity. (Author/BW)
