Subtest specificities were determined for each of the 11 subtests of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale--Revised (D. Wechlser, 1981) for a sample of 200 psychiatric inpatients. Seven subtests were judged to have adequate to ample specificity; four subtests were found to have inadequate specificity for ipsative interpretation. (SLD)

Investigated optimal two-, three-, four-, and five-test short forms of the Escala de Inteligencia Wechsler para Adultos (EIWA), the Spanish form of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (D. Wechsler, 1956). Results with 616 adults suggest that use of the EIWA should be limited to research and tracking cognitive changes over time. (SLD)

The criterion validity of the factor index scores of the third edition of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-III) was evaluated in a sample of 88 children with traumatic head injury. Only the Perceptual Organization and Processing Speed scores demonstrated acceptable sensitivity to injury severity for evaluation use. (SLD)

The retest stability of four Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised (WAIS-R) short forms (Kaufman, Ishikuma, and Kaufman-Packer; Reynolds, Wilson and Clark; Silverstein; Ward) was investigated with 61 subjects aged 75 to 87 years. Short form stability in each instance was comparable to that of the standard WAIS-R. (SLD)

The comparability of two adult intelligence tests, the Shipley Institute for Living Scale (SILS) (W. Shipley, 1940) and the Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test (A. Kaufman and N. The factor structures of the 10 Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-III core subtests were studied with 161 black students receiving special education services. Development of an alternate form of Raven's Standard Progressive Matrices Test is described. Reliability analysis with 449 children of differing racial/ethnic backgrounds showed good reliability and comparable predictive validity. The alternate form is a promising research tool. (SLD)
