Boone, Daniel E. – Assessment, 1998
Subtest specificities were determined for each of the 11 subtests of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale--Revised (D. Wechlser, 1981) for a sample of 200 psychiatric inpatients. Seven subtests were judged to have adequate to ample specificity; four subtests were found to have inadequate specificity for ipsative interpretation. (SLD)

Musante, Linda; Treiber, Frank A.; Davis, Harry C.; Thompson, William O.; Waller, Jennifer L. – Assessment, 1999
Findings related to internal consistency, temporal stability, and principal components structures suggest that the Anger Expression Scale (C. Spielberger and others, 1985) and the Pediatric Anger Expression Scale (G. Jacobs and others, 1989), studied with a sample of 415 youth with a mean age of 14.7 years are acceptably reliable. (SLD)

Putzke, John D.; Williams, Mark A.; Daniel, F. Joseph; Boll, Thomas J. – Assessment, 1999
Examined the usefulness of the K-correction procedure to adjust for a defensive response set on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) with 61 patients being evaluated for lung transplants. Results support the use of the K-correction procedure for this patient group. Implications for MMPI use are discussed. (SLD)

Livingston, Ronald B.; Gray, Robert M.; Haak, Ruth A. – Assessment, 1999
Examined the internal consistency of three tests from the Halstead-Reitan Neuropsychological Battery (R. Reitan and D. Wolfson, 1992) with a sample of 334 children, 9 to 14 years of age. Gives reliability coefficients for the Seashore Rhythm Test, two forms of the Speech Sounds Perception Test, and the Aphasia Screening Test. (SLD)

Koltai, Deborah C.; Bowler, Rosemarie M.; Shore, Michael D. – Assessment, 1996
A comparison of the Rivermead Behavioural Memory Test (B. Wilson, 1987) and the Wechsler Memory Scale--Revised conducted with 20 neurotoxin-exposed and 20 unexposed adults finds that the two tests do not differ significantly in their relationships to estimates of everyday memory, and using both tests does not improve prediction of memory function.…

Axelrod, Bradley N.; Abraham, Elizabeth; Paolo, Anthony M. – Assessment, 1997
The full version of the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST) (S. Heaton and others, 1993) was compared to a 64-card version (WCST-64) using normative data and results from 350 neuropsychological patients. The WCST-64 was found useful only for respondents obtaining five or more categories by the end of the first deck. (SLD)

Guilmette, Thomas J.; Kennedy, Mary Lynne – Assessment, 1997
The Wide Range Assessment of Memory and Learning (WRAML) (D. Sheslow and W. Adams, 1990) was given to 51 children. The General Memory Index (GMI) of the WRAML was compared with a short form of the WRAML, the Memory Screening Index (MSI). The MSI was higher than the GMI in 41 of 51 cases. (SLD)

Berning, Lisa C.; Weed, Nathan C.; Aloia, Mark S. – Assessment, 1998
To examine the interrater reliability of the Ruff Figural Fluency Test (RFFT) (R. Ruff, 1988), 124 college students completed the measure and scored RFFT test protocols. Results indicated substantial interscorer reliability on the RFFT, particularly for number of unique designs. Reliability was lower for scoring perseverative errors and error…

Archer, Robert P.; Slesinger, David – Assessment, 1999
Studied the relationship between the occurrence of specific Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-Adolescent (MMPI-A) basic scale profile patterns and the frequency of endorsement of three items related to suicide ideation. Responses from 348 adolescents with psychiatric disorders show higher basic clinical scale profiles for those endorsing…

Hilsabeck, Robin C.; Dunn, John T.; Lees-Haley, Paul R. – Assessment, 1996
The Wechsler Memory Scale--Revised (D. Wechsler, 1987) and the Memory Assessment Scales (J. Williams, 1991) were administered to 30 head-injury patients, and results were compared across four dimensions of memory. Results suggest that these scales measure different abilities and are not comparable tests. (SLD)

Coleman, A. Rand; Moberg, Paul J.; Ragland, J. Daniel; Gur, Ruben C. – Assessment, 1997
Measures of repetitive finger movement are used in neuropsychological evaluation of children and adults. A comparison of the Light Beam Finger and Foot Tapping Device with the Halstead-Reitan Finger Tapping Test (R. Reitan, 1979) for 33 adults shows similar psychometric properties for both and moderate to high correlations between the measures.…

Holaday, Margot – Assessment, 1996
A survey of 26 Rorschach experts and 19 students of Rorschach use was conducted to help students using the Exner Comprehensive System determine whether to code movement for nouns with definitions that include movement. Experts and students did not reach agreement, but a literature review suggests such nouns should often be coded as movement. (SLD)

The Impact of Event Scale (IES) (M. Horowitz, N. Wilner, and W. Alvarez, 1979) and three other measures of stress were administered to 505 adults in the general population who focused on an "upsetting event." Data suggest that an "upsetting event" version of the IES may be useful as a screen for nonarousal-related posttraumatic…
