Team Virtual Discussion Board: Toward Multipurpose Written Assignments

In this paper, the authors provide a brief description of written (letter) assignments that use student pairs in a virtual Blackboard-based discussion board. The authors begin their discourse with the purposes for employing this teaching and learning method: (1) To allow students to function in a team structure; (2) To provide written knowledge and skill assignments; (3) To create student critique and feedback opportunities; (4) To use both faculty and student time in class and out of class creatively; and (5) To augment the faculty teaching and learning environment. They then provide a description of the team virtual writing activity, and conclude with a discussion of the opportunities and limitations they have found in the use of this approach.
