Designed a 50-item self-talk questionnaire to assess positive and negative self-talk of 73 counselor trainees prior to their initial client interviews. Practicum supervisors evaluated counseling effectiveness. Demonstrated that counselor trainees experienced predominantly positive rather than negative self-talk. However, neither the amounts, nor the proportion of positive to negative self-talk correlated with counselor effectiveness. (Author/KS)
