A national experiment in foreign-language teaching carried out in selected primary schools in England and Wales is discussed. The experiment was begun in 1964 with the introduction of French. The results of the 1964-74 evaluation are discussed here. (RM)

The design and broad implications of the suggested Canadian multidimensional core French curriculum are outlined. The curriculum consists of four syllabi (language, communicative/experiential learning, culture, and general language education), and its key to success is the integration of the various syllabi contents. Canada's Summer Language Bursary Program is a joint national-provincial effort providing immersion in French- or English-as-a-Second-Language to Canadian students.
