The Freakonomics of Tenure
Chronicle of Higher Education, v53 n29 pB4 Mar 2007
The ever-simmering question of whether the tenure system should be reformed lit up the blogosphere, ignited by an online essay from the (tenured) professor Steven D. Levitt, co-author of the publishing phenomenon "Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything" and the popular blog Freakonomics. When Levitt posted "Let's Just Get Rid of Tenure (Including Mine)," proposing an end to tenure in economics, discussion erupted on his own blog and others. This article presents the comments of several people in the universities to Levitt's proposed scrapping of tenure in economics.
