This study was designed to investigate the instructional effectiveness of six methods of library instruction. The results indicated that the self-paced audiovisual tutorial study followed by a summary and question/answer session was the most effective way of increasing student achievement. Compares research productivity patterns in library science with those in other fields and explains why such factors as intellectual traits, educational experience, institutional support, and available time do not account for variations in scholarly output.
