The Bradford distribution is introduced and explained; its ambiguity, and relationship to the Zipf distribution are discussed. The general situation that might yield such a distribution is described and shown to fit the interaction between book users and books available. (Author)

Library collection weeding criteria based upon unequal distribution of demand require that distribution remain stable over time. A mathematical expression is derived that tests that stability.
