O'Donnell, Angela M.; And Others – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1987
Experiment examined the effects of summary type and the alteration of roles within a cooperative scenario on the amount and accuracy of information recalled. (RB)

Jamet, Eric; Le Bohec, Olivier – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 2007
The purpose of this study was to examine the redundancy effects obtained when spoken information was duplicated in writing during the learning of a multimedia document. Documents consisting of diagrams and spoken information on the development of memory models were presented to three groups of students. In the first group, no written text was…

Holley, Charles D.; And Others – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1981
This study examined the utility of intact and embedded headings as processing aids with nonnarrative text. College students provided with text containing intact and embedded headings outperformed students whose text did not contain these processing aids, especially at delayed testing. Implications of these results and future research issues are…

Pressley, Michael; Mullally, Janet – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1984
Types of comparisons for evaluation of mnemonics were identified based on equating exposure to the to-be-learned associations or on total study time. Experiments on the cueword method illustrated how highly analytical experiments on mnemonics might be conducted and how choice of comparisons in research could affect mnemonic evaluation. Krinsky, Richard; Krinsky, Suzanne G. – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1994
Two experiments examined immediate and long-term serial list learning effects for common nouns for 42 fifth graders. Results provide additional evidence that long-term forgetting may be greater for learners who receive mnemonic instruction than for untrained controls, in spite of some immediate enhanced recall. (SLD)

Cox, William F., Jr. – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1978
To detect the underlying structural relationship or chain among certain memorized pairs, two groups of undergraduates verbally reordered previously memorized pairs of either concrete or abstract nouns. The superior performance of the concrete word subjects was attributed to the differential effect of imaginal versus verbal encoding. (Author/CP)

Levin, Joel R.; And Others – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1992
Four experiments with 132 seventh graders, 162 eighth graders, 75 fourth graders, and 52 third graders compared the mnemonic keyword method with various other vocabulary learning strategies. Mnemonic keyword students outperformed sentence-context and free-study counterparts and generally outperformed others on tests of vocabulary usage. (SLD)
