Predicting Spatial Performance from Gender Stereotyping in Activity Preferences and in Self-Concept.

Signorella, Margaret L.; And Others – Developmental Psychology, 1989
College students participated in a study to test competing hypotheses derived from Bem's gender schema theory and Spence's gender identity theory. Perry, Michelle; Lewis, Johanna L. – Developmental Psychology, 1999
Examined whether indexes of verbal imprecision could be quantified and used to predict changes in fifth graders' problem-solving performance. Found that four types of verbal imprecision predicted improved performance: false starts and self-repairs, deletions, long pauses, and metacognitive comments. Results suggested that adopting a new approach…

Casey, M. Beth; Nuttall, Ronald L.; Pezaris, Elizabeth – Developmental Psychology, 1999
Examined ability of individuals biologically predisposed to poor spatial skills to capitalize on opportunities to develop these skills. Found that for girls with brothers, those from all right-handed families had lower mental-rotation scores than did others. Among children participating in mental-rotation-type activities with their brothers,…
