Parker, Susan C.; Berryman, Joan D. – Diagnostique, 1982
The Clinical Evaluation of Language Functions (CELF) was administered to 21 learning disabled and 21 matched normal adolescents. Results offered limited support for the construct validity of the CELF. (Author/CL)

Parker, Richard I.; And Others – Diagnostique, 1989
Criterion-related validity data are presented on 3 methods for assessing reading comprehension, based on 26 learning-disabled middle school students. The standard cloze test and multiple-choice cloze test produced moderate correlations, although the traditional scoring method was considered inappropriate. The story retell procedures demonstrated…

Simpson, Robert G. – Diagnostique, 1983
Fifteen learning disabled students (six to nine years old) scored significantly higher on the PIAT spelling subtest than on a dictated spelling test using identical words. Either approach, however, (selection or supply) ranked subjects similarly. (Author/CL)

Ipsen, Shyla M.; And Others – Diagnostique, 1983
Reported discrepancies between the WJTCA (Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Cognitive Ability) and Wechsler Intelligence Test for Children-Revised (WISC-R), scores of normal, learning disabled, and emotionally disturbed children (n=60) were analyzed. Results confirmed the validity of the WJTCA general cognitive ability score and indicated subscale…

Roberts, Adrian R.; Nicholson, Charles L. – Diagnostique, 1986
Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised short-form procedures were used with 69 adolescents with slow school progress. The Satz-Mogel model was most effective in predicting the Full-Scale IQ. The Verbal IQ, Performance IQ, and selected five or six subtest combinations were also helpful predictors. Short-form procedures are inadequate for…

Vance, Booney; And Others – Diagnostique, 1986
The relationship among IQs of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R), Test of Nonverbal Intelligence (TONI), and Quick Test (QT) were investigated using 51 students (grades 2-8) with suspected learning problems. The subjects scored significantly higher on the TONI than on the WISC-R Verbal and Full Scales. (Author/VW)

Maheady, Larry; Harper, Gregory F. – Diagnostique, 1986
Studies of the reliability, normative data, construct validity, and concurrent validity of the Social Perception Behavior Rating Scale used with mildly learning-disabled, behavior-disordered, and nondisabled children indicated adequate reliability, marked differences in scores of handicapped and nonhandicapped children, and a logical pattern of…

Poteet, James A. – Diagnostique, 1979
The usefulness of the picture story language test (PSLT) as a standardized assessment procedure that would discriminate between 124 nonlearning-disabled and 85 learning-disabled (LD) elementary school students was studied. It was concluded that the PSLT does not allow for an accurate and complete diagnostic appraisal. (Author/PHR)

Gottesman, Ruth L.; And Others – Diagnostique, 1988
Scores on the Einstein Assessment of School-Related Skills for 164 elementary-level children were correlated with reading and mathematics test scores, teacher ratings, and presence/absence of school-diagnosed learning difficulty. Results showed the Einstein was significantly related to achievement and generally predicted learning difficulty as…

Riccio, Cynthia A.; Boan, Candace H.; Staniszewski, Deborah; Hynd, George W. – Diagnostique, 1997
A study involving 120 school-aged children that investigated the concurrent validity of measures of written language found that the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test Written Expression subtest correlates moderately with the Written Expression subtest of the Peabody Individual Achievement Test-Revised and the Spontaneous Writing Quotient of the…

Gajar, Anna Helen – Diagnostique, 1987
The adequacy of the Woodcock-Johnson Psycho-Educational Battery, Part II: Tests of Achievement, for identifying and diagnosing learning disabled college students was examined using 68 subjects. Results indicated that ceiling effects were less pervasive than with regular college students. Cluster and subtest reliabilities proved adequate for use in…

Erford, Bradley T. – Diagnostique, 1997
Internal consistency, test-retest reliability, item analysis, and construct and concurrent criterion-related validity of the Writing Essential Skill Screener-Preschool Version were studied using four independent samples of children (ages 4 to 5). The test displayed a high degree of reliability and validity for a brief pre-writing skills screener.…

Parker, Richard; And Others – Diagnostique, 1996
Describes development and testing of maze-like semantic maps for assessing reading comprehension of content-area information. Results involving 144 students (38 with learning disabilities) showed that maps could be produced and scored with high reliability. Criterion-related validity based on a standardized test was weak, but moderate-to-strong…

Sandler, Adrian D.; And Others – Diagnostique, 1993
The Survey of Teenage Readiness and Neurodevelopmental Status (STRANDS), which includes a questionnaire and structured interview designed to assist in assessing learning problems in high school students, was administered to 54 older adolescents either normally achieving or with learning disabilities. Results provided preliminary support for the…

Slate, John R. – Diagnostique, 1997
WISC-III IQs and subtest scaled scores of 440 students with specific learning disabilities were examined for gender differences. Boys exhibited statistically higher Full Scale, Verbal, and Performance IQs than did girls, as well as higher scores on six of seven subtests. Girls outperformed boys only on the Coding subtest.
