"Foundations of Social Theory": Essay Review.
Brown, Daniel J.
Educational Administration Quarterly, v27 n4 p563-66 Nov 1991
According to the reviewer, Coleman claims that many current social policies deliberately or inadvertently undermine families, clans, religious organizations, and community institutions that have been sustaining social structures for thousands of years. Coleman suggests that "modern corporate actors" (even schools) cannot replace traditionally familial functions, because they cannot provide the necessary sustained attention to a child's welfare.
