Simmons, Malcolm; Cope, Peter – Educational Studies in Mathematics, 1993
The study compared the levels of response of children aged 9 to 11 to angle/rotation problems presented on screen in a LOGO microworld with levels of response to similar problems presented on paper. Results suggest that immediate feedback from the screen turtle inhibited moves to higher levels of response. (Author/MDH)

Lemerise, Tamara; And Others – Educational Studies in Mathematics, 1992
Learning environment that facilitated the acquisition and expression of procedural skills in LOGO was set up for children in the 10- to 12-year range. Ten participants were placed in a series of situations that required them to manipulate programing procedures in LOGO. Analysis of children's behavior revealed their competence in manipulating…

Hoyles, Celia; Noss, Richard – Educational Studies in Mathematics, 1992
Described is the attempt to identify relationships between pedagogy and student behavior in a mathematical microworld. The patterns of teaching associated with LOGO-based computer activities involving ratio and proportion and the teachers role in helping students bridge the gap between LOGO- and school-mathematics practices are explored. Tall, David; Thomas, Michael – Educational Studies in Mathematics, 1991
Presents computer approach formulated within a framework of versatile thinking designed to overcome obstacles to understanding algebra. Results from related studies comparing the computer and traditional approaches taught to 11, 12, and 13 year olds showed that the computer approach significantly improved the understanding of higher order concepts…

Shama, Gilli; Dreyfus, Tommy – Educational Studies in Mathematics, 1994
Identified and classified solution strategies of (n=49) 10th-grade students who were presented with linear programming problems in a predominantly visual setting in the form of a computerized game. Visual strategies were developed more frequently than either algebraic or mixed strategies. Appendix includes questionnaires. (Contains 11 references.)…
