A sample of preschool children was used to assess the construct validity of each of the McCarthy Scales of Children's Abilities (MSCA). Clinical interpretation of the General Cognitive Index (GCI) may be warranted, but diagnostic use of the Memory or Motor Scales with preschool children should be avoided. (Author/GK)

The McCarthy Scales of Children's Abilities (MSCA) was administered to 80 urban black preschoolers. Five years later, 68 of these children were retested. This investigation demonstrated the predictive validity of the MSCA for urban black children against several criterion measures, including scores on elementary school reading tests. (Author/GK)

The concurrent validity of the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI) was assessed against the McCarthy Scales of Children's Abilities in a sample of 39 Mexican-American preschool children from low socioeconomic status background.
