The construction of attitude measures frequently requires the identification of relevant areas to be measured. Latent partition analysis can be used to develop conceptually independent sub-scales by pooling the expertise of several persons. An example and suggestions of its applicability in other areas are provided. (Author/JKS)

Because no previous study was found in which both blank position in the item stem and positional placement of the correct response were studied simultaneously, it was decided to investigate the influence of these two factors, alone and in combination, on the difficulty level of verbal analogy items.
