Results of an Australian study of the Biggs Study Process Questionnaire (SPQ) are presented. The purposes of the research were to: (1) re-examine the SPQ's internal consistency; (2) explore dimensionality of the SPQ scales; and (3) investigate validity of Bigg's model of the study process complex through factor analysis. The psychometric properties of the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory-High School (LASSI-HS) was studied with 139 female high school students from Singapore. Results indicate that the LASSI-HS yields reliable measures of learning and study behaviors, but the underlying structure of the measure suggested in its manual was not supported. (SLD)

Learning Processes and Background Characteristics as Predictors of Tertiary Grades.

Learning processes, as measured by the Approaches to Studying Inventory, contributed to the prediction of freshman grades of 181 Australians. Other measures, such as college entrance examinations, locus of control, and student background characteristics, had less predictive ability. (GDC)
