Raykov, Tenko; Bluemke, Matthias – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2021
A widely applicable procedure of examining proximity to unidimensionality for multicomponent measuring instruments with multidimensional structure is discussed. The method is developed within the framework of latent variable modeling and allows one to point and interval estimate an explained variance proportion-based index that may be considered a…

Ferrando, Pere J.; Lorenzo-Seva, Urbano – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2016
This article proposes a general parametric item response theory approach for identifying sources of misfit in response patterns that have been classified as potentially inconsistent by a global person-fit index. The approach, which is based on the weighted least squared regression of the observed responses on the model-expected responses, can be…

Segeritz, Micha; Pant, Hans Anand – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2013
This article summarizes the key finding of a study that (a) tests the measurement invariance (MI) of the popular Students' Approaches to Learning instrument (Programme for International Student Assessment [PISA]) across ethnic/cultural groups within a country and (b) discusses implications for research focusing on the role of affective measures in…

Tuccitto, Daniel E.; Giacobbi, Peter R., Jr.; Leite, Walter L. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2010
This study tested five confirmatory factor analytic (CFA) models of the Positive Affect Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS) to provide validity evidence based on its internal structure. A sample of 223 club sport athletes indicated their emotions during the past week. Results revealed that an orthogonal two-factor CFA model, specifying error…

Natesan, Prathiba; Limbers, Christine; Varni, James W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2010
The present study presents the formulation of graded response models in the multilevel framework (as nonlinear mixed models) and demonstrates their use in estimating item parameters and investigating the group-level effects for specific covariates using Bayesian estimation. The graded response multilevel model (GRMM) combines the formulation of…

Huelsman, Timothy J.; Furr, R. Michael; Nemanick, Richard C., Jr. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2003
Examined the issue of construct validity of several existing measures of affect and their fit with the circumplex model. Analyses demonstrate that data collected using the four scales studied are characterized by generally good concurrent and discriminant validity. Data are in partial agreement with the proposed circumflex model of affect. (SLD)

Mossholder, Kevin W.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1994
The potential for confounding constructs with levels of constructs in measurement of positive and negative affectivity was studied with corporate managers (n=211 to 226). Results suggest that, when negative and positive affectivity are assessed only through high-pole descriptors, a reduction in the variance that is explained by affectivity…

Carroll, C. Dennis – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1976
A computer program for item evaluation, reliability estimation, and test scoring is described. The program contains a variable format procedure allowing flexible input of responses. Achievement tests and affective scales may be analyzed. (Author)

Stoner, Sue B.; Spencer, W. Boyd – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
The Anger Expression Scale (AX) was administered to 150 volunteers ranging in age from 21 to 83 years. The AX yields three scores, anger-in, anger-out, and total AX. Results indicated that both the young adult and middle age groups had higher total AX than the older group. (Author/BS)

Michael, William B.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1988
For 271 middle-class tenth and eleventh graders, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were conducted on a correlation matrices of 90 items and 18 subtests, each containing five items. The Study Attitudes and Methods Survey was used. Via a multidimensional affective measure with homogeneous scales, both techniques yielded a high degree of…

Sypher, Howard E.; Applegate, James L. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1982
The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which Crockett's Role Category Questionnaire (RCQ) is confounded by verbal ability. Participants included 285 undergraduates from a large southern university. The results show the RCQ to be independent of the verbal abilities measures. (Author/BW)

Taylor, C. Leigh; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1976
Thirty-six cognitive, affective and demographic variables in addition to two measures of musical experience were used to predict algebra and geometry grades and teacher ratings of student math aptitude for three hundred high school students. Cognitive measures were the best predictors although some affective variables made significant…

Thyer, Bruce A.; Papsdorf, James D. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1982
Statistical outcomes conclude that both the Test Anxiety Inventory and the Anagram Solution Task exhibit substantial discriminant validity but relatively little concurrent validity. Each of the measures shows considerable promise as a means for identifying students with differential levels of test anxiety. (Author/PN)

Parish, Thomas S.; Taylor, James C. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
Reliability and validity data on the Personal Attribute Inventory for Children (PAIC) are reported. The inventory correlated with the Piers-Harris Children's Self-Concept Scale at .32 and had a test-retest reliability of .88 over a four-week span. Different PAIC results were obtained for eighth grade students. (JKS)
