Gerow, Josh R.; Murphy, Daniel P. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1980
The median correlation of Nelson-Denny scores with first unit examination and semester point total was 0.56. When standardized aptitude scores are not available, the Nelson-Denny would be a useful predictor of performance in an introductory psychology class. (Author/CP)
Descriptors: Aptitude Tests, Grade Point Average, Grade Prediction, Higher Education

Hartley, Alan A.; Hartley, Joellen T. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1976
A predictive equation for estimating performance in a basic course in methods of psychological research from scores on the Differential Aptitude Test reasoning scales and on the Davis Reading Test, from measures of attitudes toward issues in psychology, and from self-ratings of abilities and of expected course grades is developed. (Author/DEP)
Descriptors: Ability Identification, College Students, Grade Prediction, Higher Education

Ryan, James J.; French, James R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1976
Results show that the achievement test is as valid a predictor as the verbal intelligence test and that both tests are more valid than the nonverbal intelligence test and nearly as valid as previous grades for predicting later grades. (Author/DEP)
Descriptors: Achievement Tests, Disadvantaged Schools, Elementary Education, Grade Prediction

Thacker, Andrew J.; Williams, Robert E. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1974

McDonald, John F.; McPherson, Michael S. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1975
In addition to high school rank in class and test scores, knowledge of high school type, sex, number of credit hours taken, and dollar value of scholarships and number of hours of outside work can significantly improve college grade prediction. (Author/BJG)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, College Students, Grade Point Average, Grade Prediction

Gable, Robert K.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
Social studies grades were predicted from a variety of affective and cognitive predictor variables on a sample of eleventh grade students. Significant relationships were found for both types of variables. A measure of motivation toward education predicted grades nearly as accurately as any of the cognitive variables. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Affective Behavior, Cognitive Ability, Grade Prediction

Balkin, Joseph – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
Open admission college undergraduates who were successful in college were administered the Adjective Check List, measuring Achievement, Aggression, and Deference. Achievement and Aggression accounted for 21 percent of the variance in grade point average (GPA). High School GPA was also found to account for 10 percent of the variance. (GDC)
Descriptors: Achievement Need, Aggression, Grade Point Average, Grade Prediction

Knapp, Lisa J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1973
Descriptors: Biology, Educational Counseling, Grade 10, Grade Prediction

Knapp, Lila; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
Comparative validity data for the Career Ability Placement Survey and the General Aptitude Test Battery relative to predicting course marks are presented for a sample of ninth grade students. The pattern of correlations between school grades and conceptually similar tests in the two measures was highly similar. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Aptitude Tests, Correlation, Grade 9, Grade Point Average

Batlis, Nick C. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
A job involvement measure was altered to reflect academic involvement and was employed as a predictor of academic performance. Contrary to the findings of prior industrial research, involvement was found to be correlated neither with age nor with course satisfaction; however, it did prove an efficacious predictor of course grade. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Correlation, Grade Prediction, Higher Education

Dalton, Starrett – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1976
Examines the predictive validity of the Scholastic Aptitude Test and high school achievement when predicting college freshmen grades. Results show that females are more predictable than males and the ability to predict college grades from these two variables seems to be decreasing. (Author/DEP)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, College Freshmen, Grade Prediction, Grades (Scholastic)

Waters, L. K.; Wherry Waters, Carrie – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1976
Results showed that significantly more accurate predictions of academic performance were obtained for lower fear of failure students and for students who perceived their present course grades as more important to their career plans than those who did not. (Author/DEP)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Achievement Need, Career Planning, College Students
