Teachers First: Hands-On Professional Development with Digital Writing
Sunshine Sullivan; Tim Clarke
English Journal, v106 n3 p69-74 2017
Rural teachers are keenly aware that their learners come to school with varied personal and cultural resources. They are actively seeking critical social practices to support their students' movement across the personal and social boundaries that exist in their classrooms. Teacher educators want to create a sustainable change in professional development opportunities for teachers' digital literacy integration work across a largely rural area. This article describes a professional development workshop where teachers from a largely rural region explored writing with video; using iMovie as a template, the teachers completed the same assignment, creating a template to "sell" the book/concept/unit of study to their students.
