Peters, C. P.; Friedman, N.; Jacobs, S. S.; Jones, B. J.; Kelley, J. M.; Nazar, K. L. – Evaluation and Program Planning, 1999
Studied the reliability of the Addiction Severity Index (1980) by using eight trained professional actors as client surrogates to examine the reliability of the instrument when administered in the field. With careful surrogate selection and training, the method proves to be an effective means of assessment. (SLD)

DaRosa, Debra A.; And Others – Evaluation and Program Planning, 1985
Medical students' performance on simulated patient practical examinations were compared to faculty ratings of the surgical clerks and awards of honor ratings. Faculty ratings were correlated with objective measures of the criteria on the exams. The performance of honor, versus non-honor students was higher on the practical exam. (Author/GDC)

Strasser, Stephen; Deniston, O. Lynn – Evaluation and Program Planning, 1978
Factors involved in pre-planned and post-planned evaluation of program effectiveness are compared: (1) reliability and cost of data; (2) internal and external validity; (3) obtrusiveness and threat; (4) goal displacement and program direction. A model to help program administrators decide which approach is more appropriate is presented. (Author/MH)
