Uto, Masaki; Nguyen, Duc-Thien; Ueno, Maomi – IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies, 2020
With the wide spread large-scale e-learning environments such as MOOCs, peer assessment has been popularly used to measure the learner ability. When the number of learners increases, peer assessment is often conducted by dividing learners into multiple groups to reduce the learner's assessment workload. However, in such cases, the peer assessment…

Charleer, Sven; Moere, Andrew Vande; Klerkx, Joris; Verbert, Katrien; De Laet, Tinne – IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies, 2018
This paper presents LISSA ("Learning dashboard for Insights and Support during Study Advice"), a learning analytics dashboard designed, developed, and evaluated in collaboration with study advisers. The overall objective is to facilitate communication between study advisers and students by visualizing grade data that is commonly…

García-González, Herminio; Gayo, José Emilio Labra; del Puerto Paule-Ruiz, María – IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies, 2017
We describe a new educational tool that relies on Semantic Web technologies to enhance lessons content. We conducted an experiment with 32 students whose results demonstrate better performance when exposed to our tool in comparison with a plain native tool. Consequently, this prototype opens new possibilities in lessons content enhancement.

Malandrino, Delfina; Manno, Ilaria; Palmieri, Giuseppina; Scarano, Vittorio; Tateo, Luca; Casola, Daniele; Ferrante, Ivan; Foresta, Francesco – IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies, 2015
The widespread use of mobile devices is leading towards their adoption in the learning process, even if some pedagogical challenges are still not fully addressed when integrating mobile-assisted activities into regular curricula activities. In this paper, we first define some guidelines to design a general, tailorable, and platform-independent…

Ruano, Ildefonso; Gamez, Javier; Dormido, Sebastian; Gomez, Juan – IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies, 2016
Online laboratories are useful and valuable resources in high education, especially in engineering studies. This work presents a methodology to create effective laboratories for learning that interact with a Learning Management System (LMS) to achieve advanced integration. It is based on pedagogical aspects and considers not only the laboratory…

Pérez-Sanagustin, Mar; Hernández-Leo, Davinia; Santos, Patricia; Kloos, Carlos Delgado; Blat, Josep – IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies, 2014
Visits to museums and city tours have been part of higher and secondary education curriculum activities for many years. However these activities are typically considered "less formal" when compared to those carried out in the classroom, mainly because they take place in informal or non-formal settings. Augmented Reality (AR) technologies…

Sun, Geng; Shen, Jun – IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies, 2014
Mobile learning is an emerging trend that brings many advantages to distributed learners, enabling them to achieve collaborative learning, in which the virtual teams are usually built to engage multiple learners working together towards the same pedagogical goals in online courses. However, the socio-technical mechanisms to enhance teamwork…

Brut, Mihaela M.; Sedes, Florence; Dumitrescu, Stefan D. – IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies, 2011
This paper presents a solution to extend the IEEE LOM standard with ontology-based semantic annotations for efficient use of learning objects outside Learning Management Systems. The data model corresponding to this approach is first presented. The proposed indexing technique for this model development in order to acquire a better annotation of…
