Ferren, Ann; Geller, William – Improving College and University Teaching, 1983

Labianca, D. A.; Reeves, W. J. – Improving College and University Teaching, 1980
Regardless of how easy a course is made for nonscience majors, few attempts have been made to use students' abilities within the academic context to enhance their appreciation of science. The teaching of nonscience majors must be viewed by the science teacher as important as the teaching of science majors. (MLW)
Descriptors: College Instruction, College Science, Faculty Development, Higher Education
Gleason, Maryellen – Improving College and University Teaching, 1984
An annotated bibliography of "Essential Sources on Teaching" was assembled and made available to the faculty of the Penn State Instructional Development Program. The faculty's favorable response was responsible for the identification of this collection. (Author/MLW)
Descriptors: Annotated Bibliographies, College Faculty, College Instruction, Faculty Development
Millman, Jason – Improving College and University Teaching, 1983
A symposium is described that provided instruction in research methodology to 12 college faculty members and required each to undertake a research project for instructional improvement. The symposium's content and format are outlined, and the results of the efforts are briefly noted. (MSE)

Stover, Dale – Improving College and University Teaching, 1983
A humanist describes his reaction to instruction in research methodology, and specifically statistical measurement, from initial discomfort, through confusion, to reassessment and reinforcement of his own assumptions and instructional intentions. The experience in specifying outcomes helped enhance his intuition about teaching. (MSE)
Descriptors: College Instruction, Faculty Development, Higher Education, Humanities
Schwartz, Lita Linzer – Improving College and University Teaching, 1980
The criteria and methods for evaluating faculty who teach undergraduates only are discussed with special emphasis on those teaching at lower-division campuses. Descriptors: College Faculty, College Instruction, Evaluation Criteria, Faculty Development

Conner, Maurice W. – Improving College and University Teaching, 1983
A faculty member's experiment to test the hypothesis that choice of an academic major is related to a student's ease in written and aural skills in a foreign language is described. Majors were given values according to their aural or analytical characteristics, and correlated with achievement. No significant relationship was found. (MSE)

Wood, James K. – Improving College and University Teaching, 1983
A study investigated the effectiveness of stereochemistry lap-dissolve projection as an aid to students in developing three-dimensional imaging and whether certain visual orientation tasks could be correlated with aptitude. Descriptors: College Faculty, College Instruction, Consultation Programs, Faculty Development
Carroll, Mary Ann; Tyson, James C. – Improving College and University Teaching, 1981
The teaching "case study" of an outstanding teacher who improved through participation in a teaching/learning research project is described. Data from the study show that students learned significantly more from him at the end of the project than they did at the beginning. (MLW)
Descriptors: Case Studies, College Faculty, College Instruction, Educational Strategies
Cohen, Peter A.; McKeachie, Wilbert J. – Improving College and University Teaching, 1980
The role of faculty colleagues in the evaluation of college teaching is not defined adequately. (MLW)
