Facilitating Prelinguistic Communication: Impact of Adult Prompting.
Salmon, Colette M.; Rowan, Lynne E.; Mitchell, Pamela R.
Infant-Toddler Intervention: The Transdisciplinary Journal, v8 n1 p11-27 Mar 1998
This study compared three models of adult prompting to promote communication acts of three toddlers. The responsive interaction model avoids the use of explicit prompts, whereas the milieu and didactic approaches encourage explicit prompts. Higher rates of intentional communication were found for the explicit prompt condition, although the minimal prompt condition yielded more balanced distribution of "speech act" functions. (Author/DB)
