Carlson, Jerry S.; And Others – Intelligence, 1983
The roles of attention in reaction time and in relationships among reaction time, intelligence, and achievement were studied in seventh graders. Reaction time measures were correlated with attention and perceptual speed as well as general intelligence and achievement measures. Implications for current theories linking reaction time and…

Swanson, H. Lee – Intelligence, 1993
Three experiments involving 85 learning-disabled (LD) children and 101 non-LD children investigated whether memory difficulties of LD children may be attributable in part to executive processing. Results suggest that LD readers may suffer from executive processing deficiencies, although they do not rule out effects of language-specific processes.…

Carlson, Jerry S.; Jensen, C. Mark – Intelligence, 1982
Reaction time and movement time were negatively and moderately-to-strongly correlated with Ravens matrices performance and with reading comprehension and performance on the California Test of Basic Skills for 20 ninth-grade girls. Weaker relationships were found for mathematics and English grades, although the direction was consistently negative.…

Daneman, Meredyth – Intelligence, 1982
The effectiveness of a measure of the processing capacity of working memory, called the reading span test, is demonstrated in predicting performance and understanding individual differences in reading comprehension. (Author/PN)

Swanson, H. Lee – Intelligence, 1993
Models of working memory were compared in 2 experiments as means of explaining variance in the comprehension of 95 skilled and 80 learning-disabled readers from grades 4 through 7. Results suggest that learning-disabled children's working memory problems are functionally related to higher order processes and not memory alone. (SLD)

Schwartz, Steven; And Others – Intelligence, 1983
A correlation exists between verbal ability test scores and name identity minus physical identity reaction times in a letter matching task. The present results support Carroll's (1981) suggestion that the reaction time difference is related more to speed than power component of standardized tests and is not optimum for prediction.
