Lavoie, Jennifer; Yachison, Sarah; Crossman, Angela; Talwar, Victoria – International Journal of Behavioral Development, 2017
Lying is an interpersonal exercise that requires the intentional creation of a false belief in another's mind. As such, children's development of lie-telling is related to their increasing understanding of others and may reflect the acquisition of basic social skills. Meissner, Tobias W.; Prüfer, Helen; Nordt, Marisa; Semmelmann, Kilian; Weigelt, Sarah – International Journal of Behavioral Development, 2018
We investigated the ability to detect a face among other visual objects in a complex visual array in 3-, 4-, and 5-year-old children, as well as in adults. To this end, we used a visual search paradigm implemented on a touch-tablet device. Subjects (N = 100) saw up to eighty 3 × 3 visual search arrays and had to find and tap upon a target--a face…

Babb, Kimberley A.; Levine, Linda J.; Arseneault, Jaime M. – International Journal of Behavioral Development, 2010
This study examined developmental differences in, and cognitive bases of, coping flexibility in children with and without ADHD. Nesdale, Drew; Maass, Anne; Kiesner, Jeff; Durkin, Kevin; Griffiths, Judith; Ekberg, Andreas – International Journal of Behavioral Development, 2007
This study examined the effects on 6- and 8-year old children (n = 160) of rejection versus acceptance by an initial group, the reason for the rejection or acceptance (personal versus category-based), and the norms (inclusion versus exclusion) of a new group to which the children were assigned, on their negative affect and attitudes towards the…

Pierrehumbert, Blaise; And Others – International Journal of Behavioral Development, 1989
Examines patterns of social interactions and their relationship to quality of attachment to mother in 33 children of 2 and 5 years. Balanced patterns in interactions with mothers reduced opportunities for interaction with peers. Insecure attachment to mothers predicted decreased responsiveness to mothers and peers at 2 years. (RJC)

Beeghly, Marjorie; And Others – International Journal of Behavioral Development, 1989
Studied play development in 35 Down syndrome and 41 nonhandicapped young children during the transition from sensorimotor to representational functioning. During the transition, children with Down syndrome developed in a manner similar to that of nonhandicapped children, but at a slower pace. (RJC)

Stright, Anne L.; French, Doran C. – International Journal of Behavioral Development, 1988
Investigates the decision-reaching behavior of 120 children aged 7, 9, and 11 years in mixed-age groups. Children of nine years in groups with younger peers exhibited more organization statements, solicitations of preference, group choice suggestions, and reading, and less following, than did nine-year-olds grouped with older peers. (RJC)

Lamb, Michael E.; Malkin, Catherine M. – International Journal of Behavioral Development, 1986
Filmed 30 infants monthly between one and seven months of age where mothers or unfamiliar women responded to their cries by picking up or talking to the infants. Results suggest that infants develop conditioned associations among distress-relief patterns by one month, and cognitive expectations by four or five months. (Author/BB)
