Student empowerment, joining rights with responsibilities, can only be achieved through participating in an activity whose success depends on a whole-group effort. This article describes a teacher's experience working with students to develop the UNIS/UN Student Conference, held annually at the United Nations and organized and run by and for students at the United Nations International School in New York City.
