The Social and Cultural Context of National Board Certification: Reflections on Issues of Representation.
Ross, Donna L.; Alfaro, Cristina
Issues in Teacher Education, v12 n1 p19-34 Spr 2003
Explored the experiences of local teachers of color exposed to the professional development opportunity of National Board Certification (NBC). Data from interviews with teachers and principals indicated that there were small numbers of local NBC teachers from diverse ethnic backgrounds. Among these teachers, barriers to NBC included lack of disseminated information, time to pursue certification, and support. (SM)
