Hicks, S. Christy; Bethune, Keri S.; Wood, Charles L.; Cooke, Nancy L.; Mims, Pamela J. – Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 2011
Some students with intellectual disabilities require explicit instruction of language skills, including preposition use; however, little is known about effective ways to teach preposition use to this population. This study examined direct instruction (DI) to teach students to use and respond to prepositions. Results indicated that DI was an…

Nabeyama, Bobby; Sturmey, Peter – Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 2010
The study analyzed the effects of self-recording and behavioral skills training on guarding responses of 3 staff members while they assisted 3 students with multiple disabilities to ambulate. The intervention increased the percentage of correct posture and guarding responses and the distance that students ambulated. These effects generalized when…

Correa, Vivian I.; And Others – Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1984
Results showed that the graduated prompting procedure was effective in training reach-grasp responding in all three children; for one child, effects were durable over repeated treatment applications, but not maintained during withdrawals; for another child, the procedure was effective in teaching reach-grasp responding in all three positions.…

Hundert, Joel – Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1982
Measurement training had little general effect on either the behavior of two teachers or of their multihandicapped deaf students. However, after programing training, teachers increased their program writing and correct use of behavior modification procedures and generalized this training across pupils and target behaviors. Berg, Wendy K.; Wacker, David P. – Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1989
Tactile cues were provided to a 19-year-old deaf, blind, and mentally retarded individual to guide her performance on packaging tasks. The tactile prompts effectively guided her on the training task and were also generalized to novel tasks and cues. Continued use of the cues was necessary to maintain performance. (Author/JDD)

Tucker, Dennis J.; Berry, Galen W. – Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1980
Two experiments were conducted to train six severely multihandicapped students (ages 15 to 23) with hearing impairments to put on their own hearing aids independently, and to provide an empirical evaluation of a comprehensive instructional program for putting on a hearing aid by assessing acquisition, maintenance, and generalization of that skill…

Rasing, Eef J.; Duker, Pieter C. – Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1992
This study evaluated effects of a multifaceted training procedure on acquisition and generalization of social behaviors of 9 language-disabled deaf children (ages 8-9). The intervention involved child training as well as supervision, feedback, and goal setting by teachers and staff. Results indicated increases in appropriate target behaviors which…
