Retzlaff, Paul; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1986
Adults were administered the Shipley Institute of Living Scale (SILS) and the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised (WAIS-R) as a validation study of previously published procedures for estimating WAIS-R Full Scale intelligence quotients from SILS Vocabulary and Abstraction Scores. Correlations were low and prediction was poor. Partial support…

Plante, Thomas G.; Goldfarb, Lori A. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1984
Administered the Activity Vector Analysis (AVA) and the Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire (16PF) (N=144 adults) to examine the concurrent validity of the AVA. Results supported the validity of the AVA's social adjustment measure. (LLL)
Descriptors: Adults, Social Adjustment, Test Validity

Evans, Ronald G. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Rescored Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (Revised) protocols from 81 normal adults using the Satz Mogel short form procedure. Low correlations between the short forms and full protocols suggest the Satz Mogel procedure can serve only as a gross screening test with normal adults. (JAC)

Feingold, Alan – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1982
Analyzed published data on the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) to ascertain whether the Information and Vocabulary subtests can function as measures of intelligence. Concluded that the addition of more WAIS subtests will not result in any increase in predictive validity and these additional tests, therefore, lack incremental validity.…

Ward, L. Charles; Selby, Rosemary B. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1980
A short form of the MMPI, the Improved Readability Form (IRF), was shown to contain items that were more readable, more stable, and less ambiguous than excluded items. Results suggest that the IRF may function as well as available short forms with persons of normal and near normal intelligence. (Author)

Milner, Joel S.; Robertson, Kevin R. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Employed 479 subjects to develop and initially validate a random response scale for the Child Abuse Potential Inventory. Preliminary norm and reliability estimates are reported. Cross-validation and construct validity data are provided, indicating that the random response scale is stable across groups and can discriminate normal responders from…

Pruitt, Doyle L.; Erickson, Marilyn T. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Assigned 44 adult non-parents to a High or Low Abuse Potential Group based upon their Child Abuse Potential (CAP) Inventory scores. Monitored heart rates and skin conductances while subjects viewed videotapes of infants smiling, crying, or quiescent. Results supported the validity of the CAP inventory. (BH)

McKinzey, Ronald K.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Results of correlation studies of 141 adult epileptics' scores on the Background Interference Procedure (BIP) indicated that the BIP often does not agree with abnormal neurological diagnoses but often does agree with psychiatric diagnoses of Organic Brain Syndrome (OBS). Suggests that future BIP validity studies include a behavioral measure of OBS…

Fowler, Patrick C.; Macciocchi, Stephen N. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1986
Pattern and level of performance on the WAIS-R (Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale Revised) and the Luria-Nebraska's Intelligence, Memory, and Motor Scales were examined for 93 neurologically impaired adults. Each set of procedures evidently is indexing the same theoretical constructs. (Author/ABB)
Descriptors: Adults, Correlation, Factor Structure, Neurological Impairments

Lewinsohn, Peter M.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Reports reliability and validity data on the Unpleasant Events Schedule, a measure of frequency and aversiveness of stressful life events during one month. Nine rational, empirical, and factorial scales were developed and were retained as mutually independent, internally reliable, and tapping dimensions of clinical interest. (NRB)
Descriptors: Adults, Depression (Psychology), Stress Variables, Test Reliability

Moreland, Kevin L. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1984
Explored the effect of scoring the entire K scale on the Faschingbauer Abbreviated MMPI (FAM) scales (N=1,258 normals; 1,181 psychiatric inpatients). The latter increased the correlation between abbreviated and standard sales by amounts proportional to the degree of K-correction, suggesting a cost-effective means of improving the FAM. (Author/JAC)

Jeffrey, Timothy B.; Jeffrey, Louise K. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1984
Utilized time-saving Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) scoring procedures in two ex post facto investigations following approaches outlined by Vincent (1979) and Himelstein (1983). Results indicated high correlation between the Vincent and Himelstein approaches and WAIS Verbal, Performance, and Full Scale IQs while maintaining integrity of…

Prout, H. Thompson; Schwartz, Julie Favreau – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1984
Administered the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test-Revised, Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test, and Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised to mildly retarded adults (N=21). Results indicated that the revised Peabody tended to yield significantly lower estimates of functioning than did the other measures. (Author/LLL)
Descriptors: Adults, Intelligence Tests, Mild Mental Retardation, Nonverbal Tests

Robitaille, Joanne; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Examined the relationship between child abuse, as measured by the Child Abuse Potential (CAP) Inventory, and authoritarianism, as measured by the Public Opinion Scale (POS). Results indicated a nonsignificant relationship between abuse scores and authoritarianism. However, significant relationships were found betwen the CAP abuse factor rigidity…

Peck, D. F.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1984
Found the Multiple Affect Adjective Check List, the Anxiety, Depression and Hostility subscales to be intercorrelated in two independent studies (N=84), raising doubts about their validity as measures of separate affective states. Suggested that the scores of the subscales may be summed to produce a measure of general negative affect. (Author/JAC)
