Investigated the utility of subtle items for the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory PD and MA scales and compared college students' (N=98) scores on these scales with scores on similar instruments. Results showed that obvious items are of greatest utility and contribute most to the prediction of criterion behaviors. (LLL)

Conducted an experiment (N=105) wherein one group was exposed to a sad film to induce depressive feelings and another group was shown an emotionally neutral film. Pretest-posttest measures indicated respondents who watched the grievous movie reported more depressive mood. Results showed the construct validity of the VROPSOM lists. (JAC)

Evaluated the validity of the Slosson Intelligence test as determined by the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R). Examined the usefulness of subtle personality scales in which test respondents are provided with knowledge and motivation to distort self-presentation. Administered the WISC and the WISC-R in a counterbalanced design to 20 Hispanic children. Revealed the WISC-R to be as culturally biased as the WISC and that more Hispanic children may be labeled as mentally deficient. Used regression equations to determine the predictive power of the abbreviated MacAndrew Scale of the MMPI-168 on self-reported delinquent behavior of 1,672 high school students. The abbreviated MacAndrew Scale score successfully predicted alcohol abuse but was also related to crimes against property and persons and to marijuana usage. (Author)

Predictive validity was demonstrated through a 14-week high school course in counseling skills in which scores on the GTO increased.
