Ray, John J. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1984
Examined the issue of acquiescence by administering a balanced dogmatism scale and a balanced alienation scale to a random sample of Australians (N=118). Results showed that dogmatism and alienation did not correlate when acquiescence was controlled. (LLL)

Zook, Avery, II; Sipps, Gary J. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Presents a cross-validation of Reynolds' short form of the Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale (N=233). Researchers administered 13 items as a separate entity, calculated Cronbach's Alpha for each sex, and computed test-retest correlation for one group. Concluded that the short form is a viable alternative. (Author/NRB)

Milner, Joel S.; Robertson, Kevin R. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Employed 479 subjects to develop and initially validate a random response scale for the Child Abuse Potential Inventory. Preliminary norm and reliability estimates are reported. Cross-validation and construct validity data are provided, indicating that the random response scale is stable across groups and can discriminate normal responders from…

De Obaldia, Ricardo; Parsons, Oscar A. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1984
Investigated the reliability and validity of the methods used to measure primary versus secondary alcoholism and claimed childhood symptoms of hyperkinesis/minimal brain dysfunction (Hk/MBD) in three separate studies (N=45), (N=53), (N=38). Results supported the Primary/Secondary Classification Questionnaire and the Hk/MBD Childhood Symptoms…

Pruitt, Doyle L.; Erickson, Marilyn T. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Assigned 44 adult non-parents to a High or Low Abuse Potential Group based upon their Child Abuse Potential (CAP) Inventory scores. Monitored heart rates and skin conductances while subjects viewed videotapes of infants smiling, crying, or quiescent. Results supported the validity of the CAP inventory. (BH)

Norcross, John C.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1984
Investigated the factor structure of the Levels of Attribution and Change (LAC) Scale on two samples: adult smokers (N=194) and professional psycho-therapists (N=140). Analysis of data substantiated the utility and internal validity of the LAC theoretical scales and supported the present scoring system. (LLL)

Scherr, S. S.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1973
Vane Kindergarten Test and WPPSI scores of 33 kindergarten children were compared. Obtained results suggest that the VKT is promising method to assess intelligence in a reasonably brief period of time and provides results comparable to those of the more time-consuming WPPSI. (Author)

Scott, Norman A. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1980
Tested the discrimination of the MMPI Beall-Panton escape index by applying it to a sample of minimum security incarcerated female felons. The index did not differentiate significantly between escapees and nonescapees. Differentiation between the groups did occur when MMPI clinical and validity scales were considered separately. McKinzey, Ronald K.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Results of correlation studies of 141 adult epileptics' scores on the Background Interference Procedure (BIP) indicated that the BIP often does not agree with abnormal neurological diagnoses but often does agree with psychiatric diagnoses of Organic Brain Syndrome (OBS). Suggests that future BIP validity studies include a behavioral measure of OBS…

Faulstich, Michael; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1986
Investigated the factor structure of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised (WAIS-R) for incarcerated individuals (N=234). Coefficients of congruence between the current factors and those of the WAIS-R standardization sample indicated a high degree of correspondence. (Author/BL)

Fowler, Patrick C.; Macciocchi, Stephen N. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1986
Pattern and level of performance on the WAIS-R (Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale Revised) and the Luria-Nebraska's Intelligence, Memory, and Motor Scales were examined for 93 neurologically impaired adults. Each set of procedures evidently is indexing the same theoretical constructs. (Author/ABB)

Lewinsohn, Peter M.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Reports reliability and validity data on the Unpleasant Events Schedule, a measure of frequency and aversiveness of stressful life events during one month. Nine rational, empirical, and factorial scales were developed and were retained as mutually independent, internally reliable, and tapping dimensions of clinical interest. (NRB)

Garb, Howard N. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1986
Reviewed studies in which clinicians made judgments and then rated the degree of confidence that they had in each of their judgments. Results reveal little support for the hypothesis that clinicians are overconfident. Confidence ratings were related positively to the validity of judgments in a number of studies. Experienced clinicians made more…

Lorr, Maurice; DeLong, Judith A. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1984
Investigated higher-order factors in the Interpersonal Style Inventory in male (N=144) and female (N=173) high school students. Analysis of the 15 scale intercorrelations disclosed five dimensions in each sample. The advantage of higher level factors lies in their greater generality and generally higher predictive validities. Budd, Edward C.; Clopton, James R. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Tested the hypothesis that the Repression-Sensitization (R-S) scale assesses self-reported symptoms of psychopathology in two studies (N=142). Results indicated that the R-S scale is influenced so powerfully by self-report of symptoms of psychopathology that its usefulness in assessing repression-sensitization is questionable. (BH)
