Rosch, David M.; Collier, Daniel; Thompson, Sara E. – Journal of College Student Development, 2015
This exploratory study examined the motivation to lead of a random sample of 1,338 undergraduate students to determine the degree to which motivation to lead can predict leadership behaviors. Results suggested that students' internal self-identity as a leader positively predicted behavior, while their "social normative" motivation to…

Thompson, Kevin M.; Richardson, Katie – Journal of College Student Development, 2008
A sobering 2002 study reported that over 2 million college students drove under the influence of alcohol (DUI) in 1999. Among those driving while intoxicated, approximately 1.7% or roughly 34,000 students reported being arrested on DUI charges. Regrettably, a significant proportion of the 1,400 college student deaths and 500,000 injuries are…

McCabe, Donald L.; Bowers, William J. – Journal of College Student Development, 1994
Compared self-reported cheating data obtained from male undergraduate college students in 1963 (n=579) and in 1991 (n=2,240). Data from both samples revealed significantly lower levels of self-reported cheating at schools with honor codes. Other findings suggest that media reports of dramatic increases in cheating may well be unfounded. (Author/NB)

Ferrari, Joseph R.; And Others – Journal of College Student Development, 1995
Examines differences in self-exploration among students at colleges with varying admissions selectivity. Measures of students from three colleges show that students at the nonselective college reported a more diffuse/avoidant identity style than students at the other two schools. Students at the highly selective college indicated a strong…
