Strunk, Daniel R.; Cooper, Andrew A.; Ryan, Elizabeth T.; DeRubeis, Robert J.; Hollon, Steven D. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 2012
Objective: Previous studies of cognitive therapy (CT) for depression have examined therapist adherence and the therapeutic alliance as predictors of subsequent symptom change. However, little is known about these CT process variables when CT is delivered in combination with antidepressant medication. Method: In a sample of 176 depressed…

Webb, Christian A.; DeRubeis, Robert J.; Dimidjian, Sona; Hollon, Steven D.; Amsterdam, Jay D.; Shelton, Richard C. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 2012
Objective: Previous research has found that therapist adherence to concrete, problem-focused cognitive therapy (CT) techniques predicts depressive symptom change (e.g., Feeley, DeRubeis, & Gelfand, 1999). More recently, Strunk, DeRubeis, Chui, and Alvarez (2007) demonstrated that in-session evidence of patients' use of CT skills was related to…

Carey, Kate B.; Henson, James M.; Carey, Michael P.; Maisto, Stephen A. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 2007
Heavy drinking among college students is common and is often harmful. A previously reported randomized trial revealed that a brief motivational intervention (BMI) reduced the alcohol consumption of heavy drinking college students (K. B. Carey, M. P. Carey, S. A. Maisto, & J. M. Henson, 2006). For this study, the researchers conducted supplemental…

Baer, John S.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1986
Clients in a smoking cessation program rated their confidence in their ability to resist smoking at the end of treatment and throughout a 6-month follow-up period. Posttreatment scores significantly predicted subsequent smoking status. Results suggest that efficacy ratings can be useful predictors of relapse, particularly when assessed during the…

Glasgow, Russell E.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1985
Participants in a communitywide stop-smoking contest were interviewed for cognitive, behavioral, and general smoking modification strategies used and amount of social support received specific to stopping smoking. Subjects reported using a variety of cognitive strategies but relatively few behavioral techniques during their attempts to quit.…

McIntyre, K. O.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1983
Assessed the relationship of a measure of self-efficacy to posttreatment smoking status in 74 adults. End-of-treatment self-efficacy scores were significantly correlated with follow-up smoking status at 3-month and 6-month follow-up, but not at 1 year. Smoking during treatment was associated with lower end-of-treatment efficacy scores. (WAS)

Condiotte, Mark M.; Lichtenstein, Edward – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1981
Evaluated the utility and validity of self-efficacy theory and a theoretical model of relapse with (N=78) cigarette smokers. Results found efficacy state was significantly enhanced as the result of both treatment programs. (Author/RC)

Greenbaum, Paul E.; Del Boca, Frances K.; Darkes, Jack; Wang, Chen-Pin; Goldman, Mark S. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 2005
F. K. Del Boca, J. Darkes, P. E. Greenbaum, and M. S. Goldman (2004) examined temporal variations in drinking during the freshmen college year and the relationship of several risk factors to these variations. Here, using the same data, the authors investigate whether a single growth curve adequately characterizes the variability in individual…

Goldman, Mark S.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1983
Studied neuropsychological recovery following alcohol abuse as a function of age. Alcoholics (N=31) were administered a repeatable neuropsychological test battery for the three months immediately following cessation of drinking. Results suggest that beyond age 40, humans increase in vulnerability to the toxic effects of alcohol. (JAC)

Cannon, Dale S.; Baker, Timothy B. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1981
Follow-up data are presented for 6- and 12-months on male alcoholics (N=20) who received either a multifaceted inpatient alcoholism treatment program alone (controls) or emetic or shock aversion therapy in addition to that program. Both emetic and control subjects compiled more days of abstinence than shock subjects. (Author)

Manwaring, Jamie L.; Bryson, Susan W.; Goldschmidt, Andrea B.; Winzelberg, Andrew J.; Luce, Kristine H.; Cunning, Darby; Wilfley, Denise E.; Taylor, C. Barr – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 2008
Unlike traditional interventions, Internet interventions allow for objective tracking and examination of the usage of program components. Student Bodies (SB), an online eating disorder (ED) prevention program, significantly reduced ED attitudes/behaviors in college-aged women with high body image concerns, and reduced the development of EDs in…

Beauchaine, Theodore P.; Webster-Stratton, Carolyn; Reid, M. Jamila – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 2006
Several child conduct problem interventions have been classified as either efficacious or well established. Nevertheless, much remains to be learned about predictors of treatment response and mechanisms of behavioral change. In this study, the authors combine data from 6 randomized clinical trials and 514 children, ages 3.0-8.5 years, to evaluate…
